"Save
the Children fights for childrens rights. We deliver immediate
and lasting improvements to childrens lives worldwide".
We are:
Child-focused: as an organisation for children, we try
to view the world through children's eyes.
Ambitious
but practical: we set our sights high - for children, not
for ourselves, but we accept that our main responsibility is a
practical one. We concentrate on making a real difference to children's
lives.
Independent:
we are not beholden to anyone, and we never compromise our integrity.
We are prepared to be radical and outspoken if necessary.
Open:
we work without prejudice of any kind. We learn from our experiences,
both our successes and our failures. We are proud of what we do,
and we communicate our work clearly and honestly.
Collaborative:
we seek to work with others whenever we can, in order to achieve
more for children.
Accountable:
we are responsible to those we exist to serve - children,
their families and communities, as well as to those who support
our work. Professionally and financially, we are sound, scrupulous,
efficient and effective.
A team:
we value diversity in those who work for Save the Children. We
have to balance many expectations, but we support each other and
never lose sight of our shared purpose.
What do we do?
Save the Children works in the UK and across the world.
Emergency
relief runs alongside long-term development and prevention work
to help children, their families and communities to be self-sufficient.
We learn from the reality of children's lives and campaign for
solutions to the problems they face. We gain expertise through
our projects around the world and use that knowledge to educate
and advise others.
Why do children
matter?
All our work is underpinned by our commitment to making a reality
of the rights of children, first spelled out by our founders and
now enshrined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
All children
deserve the best start in life - children have the right to live
in a world where they have hope and opportunity.
Children need special care and assistance, without which they
cannot fully develop their potential.
